Simplified Chinese Converter

Convert Simplified and Traditional Chinese with phrase priority and Taiwan or Hong Kong terms.

Covers a common character subset and regional terms, not the full OpenCC dictionary. Phrase matches (for example 头发, 发展) take priority over single characters.

How to use it

  1. Pick the Direction: Simplified to Traditional, or Traditional to Simplified.
  2. Optionally pick Regional terms (Taiwan or Hong Kong) to swap vocabulary such as 软件 into 軟體 or 軟件.
  3. Type or paste Chinese text; the converted text appears on the right as you type.
  4. Press Copy to take the result. The status line reports character count and how many were replaced.

Common use cases

Why it stays private

Conversion is a local table lookup. Your text never leaves the browser, and the page makes no network requests, so private documents stay private.

FAQ

Q: Is this the same as OpenCC? A: No. It covers a common subset: about 300 character pairs plus around 60 regional term groups. For full dictionary-grade conversion with every variant and idiom, use OpenCC on your own machine.

Q: Why did 头发 become 頭髮 but my single 发 stayed 發? A: Phrases are matched longest-first before single characters, so 头发 and 理发 use the 髮 form while 发展 uses 發. A few ambiguous characters are deliberately left to phrase rules instead of guessing.

Q: Does the regional term switch work in both directions? A: The Taiwan and Hong Kong lists apply to Simplified to Traditional conversion. Going the other way, regional forms are mapped back to their Simplified equivalents automatically.
