Clipboard Viewer
Inspect the text and formatted types your browser clipboard holds, right on this page.
The browser will ask for clipboard permission on first use. A denied prompt or a non-secure page is reported as an error, never silently.
Types currently on the clipboard
Binary entries are listed with their size instead of being decoded.
How to use it
- Press Read text to load the clipboard's text/plain content into the output box.
- Press Read all types to list every type the clipboard currently holds, each with its size and content.
- The browser shows a permission prompt the first time; allow it, or the tool reports the denial as an error instead of failing silently.
- Use Copy to take the text elsewhere, or Clear to wipe both panels.
Common use cases
- Checking what an app copied — see whether a site or editor copied styled HTML, plain text or both.
- Extracting plain text — read the text/plain variant even when the source copied rich formatting.
- Debugging copy-paste bugs — confirm which types land on the clipboard before blaming your paste handler.
- Auditing sensitive copies — verify that a password manager really cleared the clipboard.
Why it stays private
Clipboard reading is a sensitive browser API, so every read requires an explicit permission prompt that you control. This page reads the data, renders it locally and sends nothing anywhere; there is no upload endpoint at all.
FAQ
Q: Why does the browser ask for permission every time? A: Clipboard read access is treated as a sensitive capability. Browsers keep prompting (or remember your choice per site) precisely so pages cannot read the clipboard without your knowledge.
Q: The read failed with an error. What happened? A: The three usual causes are a denied permission prompt, a non-secure context (the API needs HTTPS or localhost), or a browser without the async clipboard API. The tool states which case applies.
Q: Can I read images or files from the clipboard? A: The type list shows every entry, including binary ones, but only text types are decoded. Binary entries display their size so you can confirm what is there without rendering it.
Your data stays on this device
Clipboard Viewer runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
