How to use it
- Pick a mode: a duration in hours, minutes and seconds, or a target date and time.
- Enter the duration or pick the target moment, then press Start.
- The large display shows the remaining time; the same button pauses and resumes.
- Reset returns the display to zero so you can start over.
- When the countdown reaches zero you will hear three short beeps and the browser tab title changes.
Common use cases
- Focus sessions: a 25 minute block without opening another app.
- Cooking and breaks: timing eggs, tea steeping or a stretching pause.
- Meetings and calls: a visible countdown to a hard stop time on a shared screen.
- Deadlines: counting down to a launch or a submission moment.
Why it stays private
The timer runs entirely in your browser: no network requests and nothing is stored. One honest caveat: when the tab runs in the background, browsers may throttle timers, so the beep can arrive slightly late: keep the tab visible if the exact second matters.
FAQ
Q: Will the alarm still sound if I switch to another tab? A: Usually yes, but background tabs are throttled, so the beep may be delayed by a few seconds. Keep the tab in the foreground for second-accurate alerts.
Q: What happens after the countdown finishes? A: The display shows zero, three beeps play through your speakers and the tab title gets an alert prefix. Pressing Start again begins a fresh countdown.
Q: Can I count down more than 24 hours? A: Yes. The duration mode accepts up to 99 hours, and the target mode accepts any future date and time.
Your data stays on this device
Countdown Timer runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
