Typography sets the tone of every screen

A font pair is two typefaces that share one layout: one carries headings, the other carries the body. Good pairs contrast in role but agree in mood, so the page reads like a single voice instead of two.

Generated CSS

The tool builds font stacks only, so the preview uses fonts installed on this device. Web font names such as Inter or Montserrat fall back locally until you load the font files on your own site.

How to use it

  1. Pick a heading font and a body font from the list of 18 system and popular web font names.
  2. Set the base size in pixels (10 to 32). The body sample renders at that size.
  3. Choose a type scale from classic ratios: 1.125, 1.2, 1.25, 1.333, 1.414, 1.5 or 1.618.
  4. Choose a line height of 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 or 1.8 for the body text.
  5. Click a recommended pair button to load a common combination, such as Playfair Display with Lato.
  6. Read the live preview, then copy the CSS variables and rules from the output card.

Common use cases

Why it stays private

Font names and sizes are combined into CSS strings inside this page. Nothing is uploaded, no font file is fetched, and the tool works offline.

FAQ

Q: Do the previewed fonts load from Google Fonts? A: No. The tool only builds font stacks, so the preview uses whatever is installed on your device. Names such as Inter or Montserrat render with a local fallback until you load the font files on your own site; the copied CSS assumes you provide them.

Q: What is in a font stack? A: Each pick becomes a stack: the chosen font first, then a same-family fallback, then the CSS generic keyword serif, sans-serif or monospace, so text stays readable when the font is missing.

Q: How are the heading sizes computed? A: The h2 size is the base size times the scale ratio, and the h1 size is the base times the ratio squared and then cubed, rounded to whole pixels. Changing the scale moves every heading together.

Q: Which pair should I start with? A: The recommendation buttons load common pairings: a serif display face with a neutral sans for the body, or a geometric sans with a humanist sans. Contrast the roles, keep the mood consistent, and adjust the scale if headings feel too loud.

Your data stays on this device

Font Pair Generator runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.

Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
