Image Compressor
Compress images in your browser with quality and size controls.
Compression runs in your browser. The image never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Choose an image up to 10MB - JPEG, PNG or WebP.
- Move the quality slider down for a smaller file, up for higher fidelity.
- Optionally set a maximum width or height to downscale very large photos.
- Click Compress - the dimensions and file size before and after appear above the preview.
- Click Download to save the smaller file.
Common use cases
- Fitting upload limits - shrink a photo until it passes a form, portal or email attachment cap.
- Speeding up web pages - re-encode hero images and screenshots so pages load faster.
- Marketplace listings - prepare one image per listing without installing an editor.
Why it stays private
Resizing and re-encoding happen on a canvas element inside your browser. The file is never uploaded, so personal photos and work screenshots stay on your device.
FAQ
Q: Why did my PNG screenshot grow after compressing to JPEG? A: JPEG re-encodes pixels and drops transparency, which can hurt flat-color screenshots. Try WebP output instead - it usually handles screenshots better and keeps transparency.
Q: Does lower quality always mean a smaller file? A: Usually, but near the bottom of the range the file can stop shrinking while artifacts grow. Trust the size readout shown after compressing rather than the slider position alone.
Q: What happened to the transparent background? A: JPEG has no transparency channel, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose WebP output to keep transparent regions intact.
Your data stays on this device
Image Compressor runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
