Text Shuffler
Shuffle lines or pick random samples with a reproducible seed, all offline in your browser.
How to use it
- Paste your list into the left panel - one item per line.
- Pick an action: shuffle all lines, or pick N lines.
- In pick mode, set how many lines to draw; it must be between 1 and the number of lines.
- Optionally type a seed - the same seed with the same input always produces the same result.
- Click Shuffle, then Copy the result. Leave the seed empty for different results every time.
Common use cases
- Raffle draws - paste participant names, pick N winners without replacement, and keep the seed as your audit trail.
- Randomized study materials - shuffle flashcards or quiz questions so memorization is not order-based.
- Assigning tasks or seats - shuffle a roster to distribute items fairly without favoritism.
- Repeatable test fixtures - fix a seed to shuffle test data the same way in every run.
Why it stays private
The shuffle uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm with a mulberry32 pseudo-random generator inside your browser. Names and entries are never sent anywhere, so draws for private groups stay on your device.
FAQ
Q: Does the same seed always give the same result? A: Yes. The seed string is hashed (FNV-1a) into a 32-bit number that drives a mulberry32 generator, so identical seed, input, mode and count reproduce the output exactly.
Q: Can pick mode draw the same line twice? A: No. Sampling is without replacement - each line can appear at most once in the result.
Q: What if the count is larger than the number of lines? A: The tool shows an error and does nothing, so an oversized request cannot silently return fewer lines than you asked for.
