Text Sorter
Sort text lines alphabetically, by length, numerically or by column, with dedupe and reverse.
How to use it
- Paste your list into the left panel - one item per line.
- Pick a sort mode: alphabetical, line length, numeric value, or the last N-th column.
- In column mode, set N: 1 sorts by the last column, 2 by the second-to-last, and so on.
- Toggle Ignore case, Remove duplicates or Reverse order as needed.
- Click Sort, then Copy the result. The status line shows lines in and lines out.
Common use cases
- Tidying name or email lists - alphabetical order with case differences ignored, duplicates collapsed.
- Ordering scored entries - lines that start with numbers sort by that value, so leaderboards fall into place.
- Sorting rows by a trailing field - order log lines or rows by their last whitespace-separated column, such as a status or count.
- Shortest-first checklists - line-length order puts brief items up top for quick scanning.
Why it stays private
Sorting happens with JavaScript's own array operations inside your browser tab. Your list is never sent anywhere, so customer data, passwords or internal lists remain on your device.
FAQ
Q: How does numeric sort treat lines that do not start with a number? A: Lines that do not start with a number are placed after all numbered lines, in alphabetical order among themselves.
Q: What separator does the column mode use? A: Any run of whitespace. A line with fewer columns than N sorts as if the column were empty and lands near the start.
Q: When does deduplication happen? A: Before sorting. Duplicates are matched exactly and the first occurrence is kept, so the output contains each distinct line once.
Your data stays on this device
Text Sorter runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
