Text to Speech
Read text aloud with your system voices, with adjustable speed and pitch sliders.
How to use it
- Type or paste the text you want to hear into the box.
- Choose a voice from the list - it shows the voices actually installed on your device, with their language tags.
- Set the rate (0.5 to 2) and pitch (0 to 2) sliders to taste.
- Click Speak to start and Stop to cancel at any point.
Common use cases
- Proofreading by ear - hearing a draft read back catches missing words that the eye skips.
- Language learning - listen to sentences in another language with the voices your system already has.
- Accessibility quick help - read a long paragraph aloud without installing anything.
- Multitasking - turn an article into audio while your eyes are on something else.
Why it stays private
Speech synthesis runs through your browser and operating system. The text goes to the local speech engine, not to this site or any server - the page makes no network requests for synthesis at all.
FAQ
Q: Why does the voice list differ from my friend's? A: Available voices depend on your operating system and installed language packs; browsers only expose what the OS provides. Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android each ship a different set.
Q: Can I download the speech as an audio file? A: No. The Web Speech API plays audio through the system without exposing the stream, so there is nothing to capture as a file here.
Q: Why does the first sentence sometimes start late or get cut off? A: Voices may load asynchronously after the page opens, and long text can be chunked internally by the engine. Picking a voice once and waiting a moment before speaking usually fixes both.
Your data stays on this device
Text to Speech runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
