Start, then just type. Backspace fixes the last character. Timing and scoring stay on this device.

How to use it

  1. Pick a text: two English samples, two Chinese samples, or Custom text with your own pasted passage.
  2. Press Start and simply type. The clock begins immediately and characters highlight as you go.
  3. Green means the character matched, red marks a wrong keystroke, and the bright character shows where you are. Backspace fixes the last one.
  4. The five tiles update live: Time, WPM, CPM, Accuracy and Progress.
  5. Typing the whole text ends the test automatically; Finish ends it early. The result card can be copied, and Restart clears everything.

Common use cases

Why it stays private

Timing uses your browser clock and nothing else. No text is uploaded, no results are stored on a server, and the page makes no network requests while you type.

FAQ

Q: How are WPM and CPM calculated? A: WPM counts correct characters divided by five per minute, the standard convention for Latin text. CPM counts correct characters per minute, which is more meaningful for Chinese text where every character is a unit of meaning.

Q: Does a wrong keystroke end the test? A: No. Wrong characters are highlighted and counted against accuracy, but you can keep typing or press Backspace to correct the last one. The test ends when the full text is typed or you press Finish.

Q: Why is my accuracy below 100 percent even though I fixed my mistakes? A: Accuracy divides correct keystrokes by every keystroke typed, including ones later corrected with Backspace. It measures how clean the run was, not just how the final text looks.

Your data stays on this device

Typing Speed Test runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.

Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
