Whitespace Cleaner
Strip trailing spaces, indentation, blank lines and tabs from text right in your browser.
How to use it
- Paste the text or code with messy whitespace into the left panel.
- Tick the cleanups you want: trailing whitespace, indentation at line starts, consecutive blank lines, a one-line squeeze or tabs to spaces.
- The cleaned result appears on the right immediately - every keystroke and every toggle re-runs the cleanup.
- Check the counter under the panels to see how many characters were removed.
- Click Copy to take the result, or load Sample first to try it on a messy example.
Common use cases
- Fixing pasted code - strip the extra indentation picked up when copying snippets from slides, PDFs or chat windows.
- Pre-commit cleanup - trim trailing spaces and collapse blank runs before committing a CSV or config file, so diffs show real changes only.
- One-line output - squeeze a multi-line snippet into a single line for logs, search queries or spreadsheet cells.
- Normalizing indentation - convert tabs to spaces, or drop indentation at line starts entirely, for consistent comparisons.
Why it stays private
Every transformation runs in your browser's memory with plain string operations. The text is never uploaded, stored or logged, so source code and internal notes stay on your device.
FAQ
Q: Does the one-line mode also remove the spaces between words? A: No. It collapses every run of whitespace, including line breaks, into a single space and trims the ends. Words stay separated by exactly one space.
Q: Can I combine several options at once? A: Yes. Options apply in a fixed order: tabs to spaces, then line-end trimming, then indentation removal, then blank-line collapsing, and the one-line squeeze last.
Q: Will it change characters other than whitespace? A: No. The cleanup only touches space, tab and line-break characters. Letters, punctuation and symbols are left exactly as they were.
Your data stays on this device
Whitespace Cleaner runs 100% locally. Everything you paste or drop is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. Nothing is stored on our servers — close the tab and it is gone.
Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or used for analytics. The page works even with your network disconnected after first load.
